Part of the art of teaching is to make sure we provide accurate grading for your child to help assess his or her progress as an English Language Learner.

To this end, assessments such as parent signatures for rolling report cards will no longer be graded because retrieving a parent signature is not a gauge for a student’s knowledge and comprehension of class content.

Furthermore, assessments such as semantic maps (the search for a word’s definition and application of that word in a sentence) will not be graded because if the student is struggling with this at home, he or she does not have access to the teacher to provide guidance.

To that end, only quizzes, exams, papers and presentations will be graded (unless there is a homework assignment that lends itself to providing authentic assessment of a student’s learning). Therefore, the grade you see on Engrade as of today is the more accurate grade for the student’s level of content knowledge and comprehension in the class.

May 21: Periods 3 and 8 may have final assessment on Stargirl today. Periods 2, 4 and 9 will have Quiz 2 today.
