"My mission is to help students maximize their personal potential"
Parents: "As the school year progresses,
you may have questions about your child's progress. First, check your child's
binder for graded assignments that have been returned; then give me a call or
send me an e-mail. I'll be glad to discuss with you how we can help your son
or daughter maximize his or her potential in my class. I encourage you to stay
in touch with me."
Please help your child by keeping current with his
or her homework assignments and helping budget his or her time to meet deadlines.
We cover a great deal of material, so we don't have the luxury of time to have
assignments turned in late. Among the skills we are teaching your child is responsibility;
help him or her understand the value of staying aware of deadlines, the benefits
of meeting those deadlines, and the consequences of missing those deadlines.
Students: "Welcome to our class this year. I'm looking forward to a fun, busy year with you!"--Mr. Z
Here
are a few letters from last year's students: read these carefully!
Dear incoming 9th grader: If you get Mr. Zacharia, you'll
be in store for hard work, notes, projects, and public speaking ... if you don't
read all you're supposed to, you're going to find yourself in a deep hole, so
I'm warning you now! Trust me, I learned the hard way! If you DO take notes,
it will help you a lot on your final exam. Do this and you will be perfectly
happy with your grade in Mr. Zacharia's ninth grade English class. Thomas M.
Dear incoming Freshmen: to pass Mr. Zacharia's class, you will need to read everything you are assigned or you will struggle. Something really cool about Mr. Zacharia is that he doesn't give too much homework--I know: cool! So do it! He lets us joke and have fun in class, but don't take it overboard; know when it's time to be serious and do your work. I hope you have fun in Freshman year! Caitlin P.
Dear Mr. Z's new student: The work load that you are going to get in Mr. Z's class is going to be more than you have gotten in the past. You just have to be ready to work and ready to write. When you do get homework in this class, you better do it becaue it makes a big difference in your grade! Make sure you do the readings--believe me, all of the tests are quizzes are on the readings; if you read, you will do fine in this class. Mr. Z is a very good and fun teacher! And he cares about what you think! DON'T assume you can use SparkNotes to get by because the questions he asks can't be answered by reading them! Greg D.
Never tell yourself you can't do the work because you can do anything you want, and Mr. Z tells you that. Don't doubt yourself or your capabilities; Mr. Z is here for you. Alex G.
Dear upcoming 10th graders: You are about to experience the Z challenge. Forget SparkNotes: quizzes and discussions are on the information that cheats do not provide. I have firsthandedly used SparkNotes in his class and it resulted in me getting a D; so I decided to read and it boosted my grade to a B. Mr. Z cares about you passing, but passing is only your work. Greg M.
Strap your seatbelts and get ready for a completely unique year: this English class will be nothing like any English class you have ever had before. At first, it will seem like it's one of the hardest classes you have ever had, but at the end all the hard work will be worth it. Don't leave work for the last minute--every day you will need to be prepared and be ready to learn. Mariya K.
I found the assigned homework to be quite useful when it came to learning about the intended topics and issues. Even though the workload was huge, it was useful and never just "busy work." So if you want to be successful in 10th grade English, I cannot stress enough how you must keep up with the assigned homework. Silvano G.
Don't settle for struggling and just getting by in Mr. Z's class. He is a very approachable guy. Just trust him and relax. Devin B. G.
I
had Mr. Z for both 9th and 10th grade English: he is crazy! But I'm better prepared
for 11th grade because of it. Be sure to read everything! (You'll love The
Great Gatsby; it's the best book I've read in school so far.) Good luck.
PS-Don't leave 10th grade until Mr. Z shows you some magic tricks. PPS-Don't
let Mr. Z drink any coffee. Max S.
